A little history about Monads Dance Club

The name, “Monad” means “Eternity” or “a basic individual entity which is indestructible” according to the OAC faculty founders of the club in 1921!

It all started with a group of younger faculty at Oregon Agricultural College who wanted more socializing and dancing so they got together for dancing at the Women’s Club. This worked out so well that in 1922 the group formally organized the Monads Dance Club. For many years the Monads danced at the Women’s Club on 7th Street, and then some of the dances were at the Memorial Union Ballroom, Benton Hotel, Wagner’s Garden Room, Episcopal Hall, and Elks Lodge. In 1992, the dances started being held at the Chintimini Senior Center with The Valley Catering serving dinners, however for 2019 - 2020 the dances will be held at the First Congregational Church in Corvallis as the Senior Center is being upgraded.

The group gets together eight times a year for a themed evening, dancing the waltz, tango, swing, foxtrot, cha-cha, nightclub and other dances. It is great to be able to go to a dance locally with a live band.

Some of the bands that have played recently are Dave Upton and Lee Nicholas. Valley Catering has offered wonderful catered buffets at a affordable price.
